Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer affecting the thin membranes surrounding the internal organs of the human body. It most commonly affects the pleura, the lining that surrounds the lungs, but can also occur in the abdominal cavity (Peritoneal Mesothelioma) and around the heart (Pericardial Mesothelioma). It is usually a very aggressive form of cancer, and its essential action is to encase the affected organs as a tumor, cutting them off from the rest of the body.

Mesothelioma Symptoms

In documented in cases where asbestos exposure lasted for as little as one month people have developed Mesothelioma and asbestos cancer symptoms 20, 30 and even 40 years after such an exposure. Mesothelioma symptoms can include:

  • Abdominal pain and swelling
  • Anemia
  • Blood clotting abnormalities
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Chronic cough
  • Fever
  • Pain in the chest (caused by pleural effusions)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling of the neck or face
  • Trouble with swallowing
